It is wise to always use sun protection with a high factor (SPF) when you are out in the sun. This provides good protection against the sun's harmful UVA and UVB rays. Remember that the sun shines even when it is cloudy - about half of the rays penetrate the clouds, so apply sunscreen even then. The sun is strongest in the middle of the day, so be extra careful then. Some medications can increase sensitivity to the sun, so always read the package insert if you take medication.
Using good sun protection products is important to prevent your skin from being damaged by strong UVA and UVB radiation. Here at Allectra, we offer a wide range of effective sun protection from well-known manufacturers - adapted for both children and adults. The sun's rays may provide both lovely warmth and much-needed light - not least for us up here in the Nordic region - but without the right protection they can also be quite harmful. In order to be able to stay in the sun and enjoy it safely, it is therefore important to use good sun protection products. Both summer and winter, in fact.
With us you will find different types of sun protection adapted for the body, face and hair. Of course, we also have products for both children and adults, with different sun protection factors and in both cream and spray form. Which protection factor you need depends partly on how sensitive you are, partly on what time of year it is and whether you are going to use it in Sweden or abroad. The longer you are going to stay in the sun and the stronger the sun is, the higher the protection you need.
Also remember to reapply your sun protection several times during the day - especially if you are swimming or sweating a lot - and to use extra high protection on children.
The best protection against the sun is provided by staying in the shade and covering the body with thin clothing. At the same time, it is of course wonderful to have a golden brown, sun-kissed skin. Fortunately, there is a simple shortcut to get there - with the help of sunless tan. In our range you will find a variety of sunless tan products from different brands, both as creams and sprays. Perfect for a golden tan all year round, without the risk of sun-damaged skin.
From the sun we get three types of UV radiation: UVA, UVB and UVC. The sun is necessary for our health, it helps the body form vitamin D and strengthens the skeleton. But if we sunbathe too much, the skin can be damaged, and in the worst case it can cause skin cancer. When the sun's rays hit the skin, the production of melanin increases in the pigment cells. Melanin acts as a protection against UV rays and causes us to get sunburned. If we are exposed to strong sunlight, melanin does not always have time to protect us, and the rays can penetrate deeper into the skin. Sun damage can feel like a burn with pain, redness and blisters. Both UVA and UVB radiation can damage cells and increase the risk of skin cancer. That is why it is important to use sunscreen or take a break from the sun from time to time, so that the skin can recover and heal.
The sun protection factor, or SPF, of sunscreen indicates how much of the sun's rays actually reach the skin. With SPF 10, 90% of the radiation is blocked, while one tenth passes through. A cream with SPF 50 provides 98% protection, which means that one fiftieth penetrates.
On the first day, 20–30 minutes in the sun is enough to allow the skin to get used to it. Then you can increase the time by about ten minutes each day. In the middle of the day, between 11 and 15, it is best to avoid the sun altogether, and try not to be in direct sunlight for more than two hours a day. Use sunscreen with a high protection factor, at least 30, and remember to apply it generously to get the full effect. There are plenty of good sunscreen products to help your skin on sunny days. You can find sunscreen for both adults and children in different forms – creams, oils and mousses. Keep in mind that you need to use a generous amount of sunscreen to get the protection stated on the packaging. Apply often and always after swimming.
It is wise to regularly examine your moles. If you notice that a mole is getting bigger, changing color, changing appearance or starting to irritate, it is best to contact a doctor. If you have a wound that stubbornly refuses to heal after a few weeks, it should also be examined.
